Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven wonders of the world and by far, one of Australia’s most natural treasures. The reef stretches 2500 kilometres down the coast of Queensland and boasts over 3000 individual reef systems and coral cays and is scattered with hundreds of sun soaked tropical islands, including the popular Whitsunday Islands. Further afield out to the Coral Sea you will find a series of spectacular coral reefs formed by underwater mountains, rising thousands of metres from the sea floor. Bountiful fish populations including Grey and White Tip Reef Sharks, Hammerheads, Barracuda, Manta Rays, Turtles and rare sea creatures such as the Nautilus inhabit the Coral Sea. Meanwhile, the south of the state offers a mecca of Wreck Diving including the world class, Ex HMAS Brisbane.
